Windows says installing to the drive is blocked by the BIOS? I've never seen that before. After installation, when you return to the BIOS, you should see 'M.2 Windows Boot Manager' or something similar as an option in the BBS priority list. For it to be bootable in UEFI mode, it needs to have an EFI partition (a 100mb FAT32 partition), which is created automatically by Windows when it installs in UEFI mode. If your M.2 drive has no operating system on it, then it will not be seen as a bootable drive.

The problem is, in UEFI Boot mode the only BBS Priority is the UEFI USB Hard Disk Drive. This is likely to be detrimental to graphics performance as your GPU will only have a 4 x link. I have an MSI X370 motherboard, so some guessing here and assumption that it is similar, but what I believe it will do is change the PCIe 16 x slots to all use 4 x mode (freeing up the PCIe lanes for use by multiple PCIe storage devices). I don't think you need to do this for installing a single M.2 drive using the main M.2 slot on your motherboard. The problem here is, when the installation starts, the system not allows me to select it on the installation page the SSD, because a pop up window saying it is blocked in the BIOS.Д¬hanging CSM to UEFI in advanced settings/Windows OS configuration also has no effect on the result of scenario nr.1.

If I leave the boot mode in Legacy+UEFI, the board allows me to select the M.2 as boot option #1 and it can be also selected in the list of Hard Disk Drive BBS Priorities.

I made a second attempt and it just led me to an infinite loop.ДЎ.1 in case if the flash drive is removed while the system restarts after the installation, it goes back to the BIOS and remains there. After reboot, the computer went back to the first stage of the installation process, despite, the files are actually on the drive (clearly visible, based on the available space and content). There was no issue in selecting the SSD where to install, right after it is finished, it required a restart as an usual part of the process.

After saving these options I started to install Windows 10.

Here I set up the right order to have UEFI Hard disk at the first place in the list. As it was recommended, I went to PCI Subsystem Settings and set it to M.2 mode (changing PCIe settings from x16 to x4x4x4x4) then set the BOOT section from UEFI+LEGACY to UEFI.I tried many ways to set up the BIOS in the right way to accept the new drive but have no luck with this. I recently bought a Patriot Viper VPN100 PCIe SSD with the capacity of 512 Gb and it cannot be used as a bootable hard drive.
